Cat Power - King Rides By (featuring Manny Pacquiao) [le coup de coeur de Noël!]

Image

Taking Action

Image
Today I am proud to share my support of Action Kivu with you. If you read me here often, you know that I try not to bug you about causes too much, unless I really feel strongly about them. We- you and I- are so blessed to be a small part of the huge supportive, nurturing, and educational world of creative blogging, belonging to very many caring people. The work that Action Kivu does seeks to offer victims of violence in Eastern Congo a chance at just the tiniest bit of what you and I enjoy every day- learning a trade and getting an education. I won't go on about their work, their website does a better job explaining the intricacies of their struggle, and the urgency of their efforts. But I will go on about my friend Alissa a bit. Alissa has done all of us a beautiful service, by bringing us a simple, and painless way to help Action Kivu. It isn't often that you have the chance to support a cause that is both vitally necessary and also transparent in its efforts. ...

Rainbow Sewing Day III

Image
After having to cancel Rainbow Sewing Day III back in December due to snow (insert ugh here), we were finally able to pull another together this passed Wednesday here at the house. Above is my shuffled up living room where we cut backings. We also sat on the floor and scratched our heads about stuff, and pulled up our skinny jeans about 60 times to avoid any unwanted backside showings. That last part could have been just me. Paula floated in with the sunshine and near 70 degree weather. Thank you Paula! Britney and my Mama were all business at the dining room table. I think Britney only cussed her bobbin running out before the end of her sewing pass about four times (not really, just an adorable sigh). I think my mom might have said "fiddlesticks" only about 8 times, which is how my mom cusses. Thank you Britney and Mama! Kirsty joined us again, bringing her beautiful baby Toby along. They mostly played blocks in the playroom. (Haha get it? Okay, sorry.) Thank you Ki...

A Quilt for Queensland Auction!

Image
I won't even bother to describe the devastation in dear Queensland since the flooding except to say that I cannot even conceive of it. They need help, every form of help, money and prayers. Today I am offering this quilt that is dear to me up for auction (more written about it here ). I designed the fabric, the quilt, and pieced, patched, hand quilted and bound every bit of it myself. In fact, much of it was even hand quilted on that amazing journey we took last year. So you can bet that blood, sweat and most definitely tears also inhabit this piece of work. But it still smells nice, promise. The quilt is made from my Gathering Flowers Quilt pattern in the Twin/Full size which is 72" x 90" and is backed entirely in the Square Dance Berry Voile . This quilt is a mix of cotton voile and cotton quilt weight fabrics. How to bid on this quilt: 1. Bidding starts at $100 US. 2. Place a bid by leaving a comment on this blog post with your bid amount. Please make sur...

Today was a wonderful day. Amen.

Thank you to all my new, and old friends who helped. kiss.kiss, AM (p.s. if you reading this through a reader, you may need to come to the blog to view the above video.)

A Sewing Circle

Image
Has it been two weeks? Wow. Feels like about one long day. Phew. N'kay. Yesterday was my favorite day. I've been waiting for months. We had the first of two planned (prolly needs to be more like ten) sewing days to begin assembling the Rainbow Around the Block quilts for flood victims. That's Brittney up there working away while I imagine the rest of us were either digging through blocks, pressing, squaring, eating, eating, eating or planning the next top. Thank you Brittney for your talented hands! And for taking on the pink flamingo blocks. You are not going to believe these stats----here we go...maybe you'll believe it. I didn't believe it, but you're probably smarter than me. Actually now that I've sorted through all of the blocks, tops and quilts and begun the sewing I most DEFinitely believe it. Uoops. I derailed, the stats: we've received 1,746 blocks (enough for 41 full size quilts), 77 finished quilt tops and 22 completely finished q...

Under Water

Image
The weekend began with being glad that I wasn't going to have to water the garden. So much of Nashville is under water after just two days of rain. One headline after another. Everything from the loss of life to Naomi Judd's buffalo running free in Leiper's Fork. This town and the surrounding towns have just been taken over by water and more water. After planning a Saturday out shopping (and also a visit to see Natalie signing her book at Textile), in no time we rather found ourselves quickly hoisting my freshly painted Quilt Market booth walls off the garage floor and up onto a dry spot. Even though we are fortunate to have a home on a pretty high hill, we did spend a good part of the weekend getting water out of our basement, garage and crawl space. We have a pretty dry house, but maybe once or so a year, if it rains really badly, the drains become overwhelmed and the runoff from the backyard can't be absorbed fast enough. Nicolas, who opted for a basemen...

Coupla things & Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
Its gonna be a short work week & I wanted to stop in first and share a few things, and if you're on the mailing list, sorry for the overlap in info, suffer through it or click through pilgrim! * First and most important, I fully intend to wear one of two things over the next several days : an apron : or : a pile of yarn- under which I will be making things I don't need and maybe a few gifts for people who don't need things either. * I have a new collection of aprons and dishtowels in the shop and I am super excited to say that included in this group are some fun little girl aprons~My girls are always tying my half aprons up to their underarms, so they are giddy with anticipatory-holiday-baking excitement over these! * Overwhelmed with thankfulness for all that we have, I know I'm not the only one who'd like to spread a little love around at this time of year. And without a doubt there are more families in need these days than ever. We will be donating a porti...
